Past Events

January 13th, 20th, and 27th, February 10th, 2018: Treasured Words

Participants will decorate a treasure chest out of used cardboard. Participants will make jewels and coins to fill the chest out of discarded bottle caps and each cap will have a "Treasured Word" on it. The chest can be filled with words that the students like, are important, or new. They can fish for a new word in a book and find the definition or add words that are meaningful to them such as “love” or “peace” or their name... Paint and discarded sequins, shiny paper and old costume jewelry will be used to decorate their “word coin”. We can leave it at the library and kids can interact with it by continuing to add words (maybe after story time when they learn a new one). Or use their “word coins” to “coin” new phrases, poems and word salads.
